Clogged Waterway

I’ve talked about it before but one of the things that’s always in a web designer / developer’s head is the issue of cash flow.  In that, it’s great that you get to do what you love, but when there’s a snag on the clients side of things and the process stalls, cash flow becomes a problem assuming you didn’t collect a total up front fee.

The best way around this, especially with larger projects, is by billing at various milestones.  This means that after certain phases of the web project, a percentage of the total estimate would be billed to the client before proceeding forward.  Sorta like taking a large project and working on it in bite-sized chunks.  That way, cash flow issues can be qelled for the most part, and everyone form the client to the devleoper is on the same page with regard to the overall progress.  In our industry, a service industry that takes real time to design and devleop high quality websites, cash flow is always an issue.  Everyone has bills to pay.  Which is way divving the payment up into sections is a good way to go for all involved.
