We talk a lot about our web work on here, so I thought it would be nice to stop and recognize the work of some of the wonderful logo designers we have working with us.

These four, by Martha Ormiston, with her comments inline:

ezstudentlife_72dpi

“The EZ Student Life logo is classically collegiate, represented by the graduation cap and also the font which is a throwback to old varsity jackets. The blue and orange colors used in the logo are complementary and make the logo stand out, while also creating an aesthetically pleasing feeling in the viewer. ”

mm_logo

“The logo for MM Real Estate is inspired from lion door knockers. The lion head conveys reliability and strength, and the lion being part of a door knocker expresses a welcoming feeling. The font is reminiscent of text found on old roman sculptures, thus conveying dedication and dependability.”

devinbinder_blue

“The logo for Devin K. Binder, M.D, Ph.D., is a modern rendition of a brain and spine using geometric shapes and negative space. The scrub blue color is used to convey professional medical branding by referencing the blue scrub uniforms worn in the operating room.”

goldsparrow_logo_72dpi

“The Gold Sparrow logo is a minimalistic representation of a Sudan Golden Sparrow using the colors gold and brown. The serif font conveys traditional and classic, while the use of all capitals makes the company name both attention grabbing and bold. ”

And a couple from Dani Cabrera:

January 20th marked an exciting day for many people in this country. The swearing in of a new president who will bring change and hopefully, change the world view of the U.S.  President Obama’s message was change. From his cabinet, the political process, the way this current office is making it easier fo the average citizen to be involved with their government and most importantly, the official White House website (okay, I know it was a little over dramatic, but I had to tie it in to web design somehow). When landing on the front page of  Whitehouse.gov, I couldn’t help but notice how nice and clean the website looked. You can tell the new presidency is up to date with their standards.

Apple logo evolution

Apple logo evolution

There is great value in updating your logo and/or branding every few years.  This is done mainly to convey the idea that your company can and will evolve with the changing marketplace and set your company apart from competitors in a similar industry.  Obviously branding and modern design techniques are an extremely important factor within the web design process and you can check out some of the branding examples that we’ve designed on our portfolio page.

This website has a pretty good listing of many fortune 500 companies and their logo evolution over the years and how these changes represent them as a company.

The concept of protecting your brand via SEO is something I have talked about both here in the office with other developers and suggested in client meetings. However it occurred to me that I had never mentioned it here on the blog. Although it is impossible to keep your dirty laundry from ending up online, you can string up enough white linen to cover your assets.

We here at Frye / Wiles spend a lot of time thinking about Branding and Corporate Identity. I mean, it’s pretty much what we do all day. That and websites. Lots of websites. And hard-core nerd-type PHP / mySQL / Javascript / AJAX programming. And the occasional bursting into song. And sometimes we send Dani on a pie run. But I digress….

Anyway, branding: One of the biggest hurdles we run into with potential clients is getting them to recognize the value (or potential value) of their brand. Oftentimes, companies will spend large sums of money on their building, their equipment, their workforce, their executive compensation packages, etc. And well they should - these things are all key parts of the structure of their businesses. But very often, the brand itself neglected. (more…)
