Short answer: probably not. But there have been some rumblings out in the wide world of the Internet, where Google’s can-do-no-wrong status is being challenged. This is nothing new of course. The reasons range from frivolous to somewhat substantive, but one thing is certain; nothing lasts forever. Even a well-known and storied online superpower can fall out of favor with the masses if they attempt to change what made them great and so well loved in the first place.
An example of one of these Google naysayers comes from an article at computerworld.com which purports that Google has officially lost its mojo. Everything from reduced cafeteria privileges and daycare cost increases, to prominent Google apps like GMail and Google Docs being perpetually in beta testing, is brought up as reasons Google isn’t as hip a place as once thought. They also point out that Google has lost a significant amount of their stock price from last year, even more so when compared to the stock market losses as a whole.
The one thing that nobody disagrees on is that Google is still tops in the search engine department, and is expected to be for the foreseeable future. Even if some of their applications could use some fine-tuning and their interest in developing ‘cool’ applications outweighs the actual service that application provides, they’ll still have the corner marking on all things search related. And even if what most of this article states is true, it seems like issues that a open-minded company like Google could address promptly and without much damage being done to their brand.
