I like Photoshop brushes–don’t get me wrong, but illustrator’s where my heart’s at. It’s one of the most forgiving programs in the Suite that can save you time when changes are submitted for your designs. Have a tiny icon, and you want to enlarge it into the header? Time flies if you started with vectors. Want to see some quick color swatches? Copy, paste, group, and apply. Take full advantage of that artboard.
Certainly the issue still arises as to how to incorporate that same sense of softness, organic appeal, and spontaneity; nonetheless, I’m a believer in a wider range of possibilities for Illustrator. Keep in mind if you’re not careful, then some designs might appear too cold and over-calculated. Polish your designs off. Vary the width and weight of lines. Consider perspective, and add depth. Bear in mind the amount of control you still own by bringing in textures, masks, and a flurry of filters and effects. Add a super shy outer glow, blur, or transparent mask–not overkill, but subtlety.

So without further ado here are some vectoriffic bittbox freebies for watercolor brushes, foliage, and ink splatters to soften, polish, and turn your straight lines into something a bit more lifelike.
