The reoccurring themes this time around are vivid spectrum palettes, ribbon-like elements against sharp angles, solid blacks, and wide open headers.  The first two in the trio come from the CSS Heaven gallery, while the third is a personal favorite.  At first glace the Racero portfolio reminded me of Web Designer Wall’s Photo Strip tutorial (if you haven’t seen it yet by all means DO).  The high contrast ribbon-like texture writhing through the design - - even the little sheen and its soft bends all mirror similar concepts that can be achieve with a few tweaks of the relatively new Photoshop Transform/Warp tool.  There’s something about an organic shape just billowing through an otherwise grid-like structure that demands your focus and causing you to mumble, “Oooh…”.

Then you see a site like globestudios where simplicity must have been the mantra, but add one smokey header image and suddenly it’s broken out of the box.  Who knew the same pattern from a cutting mat plus a smokey dream could equal this?  Definitely another case of opposites attracting.

Finally my own personal Jes–favorite.  Sure it’s been up for a while now, but the new Depeche Mode site is as it usually is: even better than the last.  About a month ago I was looking up random concert dates, and expected to see the old black site.  Instead what should my eyes behold?  A total transformation!  Light, space, minimalism, and subtle nods to vibrant color.  I just want to expand my browser continuously.  It makes me think, ULTRA modern and custom fit with their upcoming album title.  Every time it just gets better…I just can’t get enough (forgive me)…someone’s definitely doing their homework in D’Mode land.
