The problem with some design magazines is they can get a little stagnant at times. One month I’m in Barnes and Noble trying to decide which magazine I can live without (because it’s either 5 magazines or filling up my gas tank). Then the next month I’m disappointed when most covers look the same. One company decides swooshes and “urban street art” are the cool thing to copy, and suddenly you’re stuck with those for the next six months to a year.
It’s times like these where I take my interests elsewhere. Goodbye Arts and Photography section of the magazine rack–you’ve done me wrong, and Hello Lifestyle, Culture, and Music/Entertainment. The articles are not always the most enlightening (most of these however are exceptions), but it’s the layout that counts. Case(s) in point:
