AT&T has pulled back the pricing curtain on the various prices and monthly plans for the new Apple iPhone 3G. The good news is that the new iPhone is quite a bit better than the original model released just a year ago. The bad news is, the thing is still going to hit you right in your economically depressed wallet.
If you’re picking up an iPhone, chances are that you’re using it as a replacement for your current or non-existent iPod in addtion to a phone and internet device. This means, you’re gunning for the 16GB version to hold most of your Beatles and Bon Jovi classics. And for the 16GB model, even with a 2 year AT&T contract, your fancy new 3G iPhone will cost your $299. Granted, it’s a neat device, but hot damn that’s pricey. Of course, if you want buy it without the contract, it will set you back a cool $699. Yikes!
Beyond just the price of the devise itself, the talk plans seem to be inflated as well with $70 / month for 450 minutes of talk. Call me old fashioned, but that’s pretty steep. Though many in this office are salivating at the prospect of owning of these stimulus check eaters, I’m going to pass on the new 3G iPhone. It’s a great device, but I’d probably drop it and break it on my way out of the store anyway, leaving me with a battered piece of sleek technology with little to show for it.
Check out AT&T’s official iPhone website with all the prices and plans.

Hey Nate…
I’m writing this message from an iphone! =)… okay well at least I could, and will in two weeks!
It should be noted that $70 / month includes the data plan and full web browsing (except flash). I actually know quite a few people who have gotten rid of their internet service at home and just use their iPhone for internet access.
